Is artificial intelligence closing in on your professional future?
In this fast-paced world, artificial intelligence (AI) is charging ahead and learning new skills at a rate that most of us find more than a little alarming.
What will AI master next? Will it replace us in our jobs, or will it change them beyond recognition?
These concerns are perfectly reasonable, given there’s so much in our news feeds about chatbots, self-driving cars and robotic surgeons. The fear of being rendered professionally useless and redundant is very real. With such a focus on how we can be happy in our work these days (and on how very unhappy many people are!), I wonder if the rise of AI is feeding people’s worries, fears and anxieties.
There’s no need to be anxious, though. With the right approach, you can harness the very opportunities that change brings, using them to build yourself an ever more fulfilling professional life. The key to this is to be in a state of action and possibility, rather than fear and anxiety.
I often talk with my clients about focusing on their purpose, on what motivates them, what they’re passionate about, what ‘makes them tick’. A natural next step is to consider how you can leverage your own individual intelligence, skills and experience to contribute towards this purpose. There’s plenty of opportunity for professionals, experts and managers who are able to work alongside technology, harnessing it to complement their own intelligence and their purpose.
Don’t forget, someone out there is passionate about AI and used their individual intelligence, skills and aptitudes to develop it into the impressive tool it is today! All technologies, including AI, have humans at their core.
It’s not always easy to imagine what your next career step might be.
You may find it useful to think about what issues in society speak to you. Which ones make you worry? Which ones make you angry? Which inspire you? Finding those topics which evoke an emotional response in you will help you identify an area to focus on, and then you can work out how you can be useful there. You might need to learn new skills, understand how to use new tools or grow your network in those areas in order to make it work, but it’s absolutely possible AND EXCITING!
When you bring together your inspiration, your authenticity and your motivations along with your leadership skills and your own innate, individual intelligence, you’ll create an environment where you’re effective and enthusiastic. New people, opportunities and professional possibilities will begin to present themselves, you’ll be more fulfilled, happier, and you’ll feel alive!
I’d love to join you on your journey, revisiting your sense purpose, designing what might come next in your career, embracing technology and AI and examining what matters to you most. Get in touch.
